Fred Tomaselli at The Aspen Art Museum
Mid-Career Survey Exhibition and New Monograph
James Cohan Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Fred Tomaselli's mid-career survey exhibition at the Aspen Art Museum.
Opening August 1 and on view through October 11, 2009, Fred Tomaselli features works from the 1980's to the present. Curated by Aspen Art Museum Director Heidi Zuckerman Jacobson, the exhibition was organized by the Aspen Art Museum and The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College. It will travel to the Tang Museum from February 6 – June 6, 2010 and to the Brooklyn Museum from October 8, 2010 – January 2, 2011.
Additionally, Tomaselli will receive the distinguished 2009 Aspen Award for Art from the Aspen Art Museum at the museum's artCRUSH summer benefit on August 7th, 2009. Past recipients include Ed Ruscha (2008) and Jim Hodges (2007).
On the occasion of this exhibition, Tomaselli will be the subject of a new monograph by Prestel Publishing to be released on September 1, 2009. Edited by Ian Barry, Associate Director for Curatorial Affairs and Curator at the Tang Museum, the book will feature an extended conversation between the artist and Berry, and scholarly essays by Zuckerman Jacobson and others. It will also include an excerpt from an unpublished work by David Shields, best-selling author of The Thing About Life is that One Day You'll Be Dead.
