010 – 84599269,eventbooking@ucca.org.cn

Boundary Crossings: Art and Visual Culture in Our Global Age
Date: May 2008
Venue: UCCA Auditorium
In a time when the distinctions between the global and the local are growing increasingly complex, artists have provided us with new models for envisioning this shifting opposition, raising questions in the process: How has the increased circulation of ideas, images and artists across diverse national and cultural borders shifted contemporary art and curatorial practice over the course of the last decade? How are art historical legacies being customized and recycled in light of the specific cultural conditions of their usage? This panel invites a group of distinguished scholars, curators and artists from China and abroad to consider how the increasing mobility of artists and artworks is transforming our cultural landscapes.
*This Panel Discussion will be in Chinese and English. Please check the detail information and download the schedule from our website: www.ucca.org.cn or pick one up from the reception desk.

UCCA EDUCATION PROGRAM
Family Workshop: Art by Chance
UCCA encourages young visitors and their families to experience and engage with contemporary art through art based activities and hands-on learning. Throughout April and May we will be offering family workshops in conjunction with the March 22nd opening of ‘House of Oracles: A Huang Yongping Retrospective’.
Huang Yong Ping uses chance as a way to make decisions about his artwork. In these workshop activities we invite kids to spin a wheel and let chance determine which work in the exhibition they will draw, as well as the directions for drawing and materials they use.
Chinese Language Workshops:
5th April, 19th April, 3rd May, 17th May, 31st May
Time: 2pm-- 3.30pm
English Language Workshops:
13th April, 26th April, 10th May, 26th May
Time: 2pm-3.30pm
Part one: Family Tour
Aimed at young visitors and their families, this tour is a shorter version of the adult guided tour, adapted for children. The tour is meant to precede the child and family-centered activities listed below, highlighting the ideas addressed in the activities (chance as a determinant for creation; animals, insects and reptiles that appear in the exhibition).
Part Two: Art workshops
Drawing by Chance and Animal Sculpture Workshop
Kids will get to spin a wheel and let chance determine which work from the exhibition they create along with the means and materials of creating it.
All workshop activities are free but advance registration is required. Each session is limited to 15 children.
