《On the Border》：献给“水门事件”
这是“老鹰”乐队第一首节奏蓝调加放克曲风的作品，在当时甚至就连作为鼓手的Don Henley自己，都对乐队能玩出这样的作品而感到很惊异。而且这也是Glenn Frey第一次在一首作品里，如此纯粹的运用节奏蓝调演奏技术。
而这首歌曲的歌词灵感，则来自于当年引起世界轰动的“水门事件”。此事件是当权的政府对位于水门大厦的民主党竞选总部进行窃听的一段历史，在位的总统尼克森，虽然事前并不知道此事，但在知晓此事后却竭力掩盖实情，阻碍司法调查，还在大众面前公开撒谎，东窗事发后，尼克森也因此成为美国历史上第一位被迫辞职的总统。整个世界也彻底瓦解了美国民众对政府的信赖和依赖，从而引发公权力和个人隐私之间尺度的思考。而《On the Border》正是“老鹰”的思考成果。
